15th July, 2026

Tuath Housing has invited residents to apply for funding to support community-led projects focused on climate action and sustainability.

The organisation has launched its Climate Action Fund for 2026 and is now accepting applications from residents with sustainable ideas for their communities.

It is the second year of the Climate Action Fund, which is run by Tuath’s Sustainability team in partnership with its Community Engagement team. It aims to enhance green spaces, promote sustainable practices and support climate resilience.

In 2025, over €9,000 in funding was awarded to five community-led projects, supporting initiatives that delivered environmental, social, and community benefits. Beyond the environmental benefits, fund recipients reported a stronger sense of belonging within their communities, and more opportunities to spend time outdoors while contributing to a greener future.

The fund was established as part of the Tuath Foundation, the organisation’s initiative to ‘build brighter futures’ and enhance resident and community engagement across the country.

Residents and community groups can apply for grants ranging from €500 to €5000 per project. Applications will be open from 15 July 15 and will close on 26 August.

Residents can now apply for the fund via the link HERE

What sort of projects does the fund support?

Residents can apply for funding for a wide variety of ideas that they believe will help to support sustainability in their neighbourhoods.

Community gardens

The fund can be used towards the creation or expansion of community gardens that promote sustainable food production, support local biodiversity, and foster social cohesion within neighbourhoods. This includes:

  • Raised bed / plots
  • Compost bins
  • Seating or gathering space
  • Tree planting
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Polytunnels

Sustainable transport

The fund can be put towards the installation of bike racks and bike sheds and other initiatives that encourage the use of clean, sustainable transport options within the community such as;

  • Bike shelters
  • Bike repair/maintenance stations
  • Cargo bikes
  • Electric bikes
  • Charging infrastructure for electric bikes

Biodiversity

The fund can be put towards initiatives that help restore and maintain local biodiversity, such as bird-box installation, beekeeping projects, native tree planting and pollinator friendly planting.

  • Vertical gardens – a solution for apartments
  • Pocket forests
  • Seed collection and propagation

 Sustainable living

The fund can be used towards hosting workshops relating to climate action, energy saving, green skills training, swap and share events and much more. Equip your community with the knowledge and skills they need to live more sustainably.

Community based training programs that enhance green skills in areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and climate action, will empower residents to actively participate in the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable economy, these include;

  • Recycling awareness
  • Upcycling workshops
  • Swap and share events
  • Energy saving

“Sustainability is a key concern for communities across Ireland”

Tuath is looking forward to making an impact through the Climate Action Fund in 2026, said Jennifer Whitty, Sustainability Manager.

“We are so excited to be opening up the Climate Action Fund again for another year,” she said. “Sustainability is a key concern for communities across Ireland and an issue of priority for our organisation. Tuath’s residents are very creative and really passionate about sustainability, so I can’t wait to see what ideas come through in the applications for 2026.”
