Tuath Residents and Staff Celebrate European Neighbours’ Day 2022

Tuath Residents and Staff Celebrate European Neighbours’ Day 2022

International European Neighbours’ Day on the 27th of May was celebrated across the country and saw hundreds of residents organising planting days, coffee mornings, afternoon teas, music, sharing European dishes with neighbours, sports and clean up days. Tuath supported 35 schemes by providing bee friendly planting kits and trees to encourage community inclusion and support biodiversity and create better neighbourhoods where people enjoy living.

The awareness day gave residents an opportunity to hold community events that they may have been missed out on over the past two years because of the pandemic. One event held in Tramore, Co. Waterford saw residents enjoy Irish music, tree and summer planting, refreshments and much more. James, An Garran Residents’ Group, Tramore said “It was wonderful to see our residents, staff from Tuath housing, the council, and a courtesy call from our local garda station all mixing together which created a real feeling of community spirit and that’s precisely what we are trying to achieve”

In Liscorrie, Co. Louth residents organised a large clean up and planting day. In Cork, the sun shone as residents came together and planted some lovely summer plants to brighten up the scheme. Across Europe and now even further around the world, over 30 million people celebrate the day every year. Many thanks to all those who took part in Tuaths’ European Neighbours’ Day 2022.

Tuath and Respond win ‘Social Housing Development of the Year’

Woodside, Enniskerry Road , Ireland’s first purpose built Cost Rental housing development,  wins Social Housing Development of the Year at the National Property Awards 2022

Approved Housing Bodies Respond and Tuath have said they are delighted to be announced as the winners of Social Housing Development of the Year Property at the National Property Awards 2022. The award is for ‘Woodside’, a development on the Enniskerry Road (Dublin) of purpose built cost rental and social housing homes, delivered in partnership by Respond and Tuath Housing.

The scheme includes Ireland’s first purpose built cost rental homes consisting of 155 homes (50 cost rental and 105 social housing). The development was delivered by Respond and Tuath in partnership with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Housing Agency and the Housing Finance Agency.

The homes are a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom properties. All of the 50 Cost Rental homes are 2-bedroom apartments. The Cost Rental apartments are let at a monthly rent of €1,200, a significant reduction when compared to market rents for 2-bedroom apartments in this location. The rent charged to tenants will cover the cost of delivering, managing and maintaining these homes and will not be driven by market movements.

The development offers its tenants a community facility along with lots of green spaces. The site is located near to a wide range of amenities, public facilities, schools, health services, local community and sports groups.

Daragh O’Sullivan, Chairman of Tuath Housing commented; “We are thrilled to have won the award for best Social Housing Development of the Year, along with our partners Respond, for this ground-breaking development of Ireland’s first purpose-built cost rental scheme combined with 105 high quality social homes at Woodside , Enniskerry Rd. We were delighted to have worked closely on the delivery of these homes with Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the Housing Agency, the Housing Finance Agency and the Department of Housing, Local Government & Heritage. Huge credit must also go to Duggan Brothers for delivering the highest standard of homes at Woodside. The rent paid by the new tenants will cover the cost of providing, managing and maintaining the homes for decades to come, and not a cent more. This flagship project offers the new tenants a much more affordable, long-term and secure form of rental tenure with the added benefit that their rent will not be driven by future price hikes in the private rental market. We look forward to supporting the new tenants at Woodside, engaging and creating a sustainable community. We are pleased to be working on another six cost rental schemes and we look forward to allocating 250 properties throughout 2022 and 2023”.

Niamh Randall, Spokesperson for Respond said: “Respond are delighted to have won this award with our partners in Tuath Housing. ‘Woodside’ on the Enniskerry Road is a unique collaboration between Respond and Tuath Housing, providing a new type of housing tenure in addition to social housing, private renting and private purchase. We are so pleased to have been able to welcome tenants to their new homes over the past few weeks and we hope they will be very happy living there. Our Housing team will be there to support them as they move into their new lifetime homes. This would not have been possible without the support and partnership of the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, the Housing Agency and the Housing Finance Agency. We must also pay tribute to the excellent work of Duggan Brothers who were the contractors on site. We very much look forward to working with our partners to deliver further cost rental and social homes around the country to those who need them.”

Tuath Housing Association and Cavan County Council today welcomed Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage Darragh O’Brien to Cavan where he visited a 25-home development at Drumalee Manor and presented keys to one of its newest residents Elaine Ryan and her family.

To date, 12 of the new homes have been completed and allocated, by Tuath Housing, to people from the Cavan County Council housing waiting list. The remaining 13 homes are due for delivery in September of this year. The development is located within the pre-existing Drumalee Manor Estate, just outside Cavan town, which contains a mix of social homes and privately owned housing. The 25 new A-rated houses currently being delivered will bring the total number of homes in Drumalee Manor Estate to 108, with Tuath managing 36 homes in this development.

Tuath Housing are delighted to have worked in partnership with the Council and developers Onyx Homes Limited on this development which will consist of 9 no. 2 bed homes, 15 no. 3 bed homes and 1 no. 4 bed homes on completion. Drumalee Manor is situated in a prime location only a short distance from a range of primary and secondary schools, Cavan Institute, Cavan Leisure Complex, and a host of other retail and social amenities along the Coothill Road.  The new homes have been funded via private finance from the Housing Finance Agency and a loan from the Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government.

Tuath Housing already manages 113 homes throughout Cavan with a pipeline of a further 65 homes over the next 2 years. The Association currently has over 8,500 homes in management nationwide and, with a strong pipeline in place, are on course to deliver 1,400 homes in 2022.

Under Housing for All we are now building those homes on a scale not seen for many years, with 9,000 new social homes to be built across the country this year. The work of Approved Housing Bodies will be key to sustaining and building on that momentum, and I’d like to thank Tuath for their work in making these new homes here at Drumalee Manor a reality. It was a privilege to meet some of the new tenants here today, and I wish them the best of luck in their new homes.”

86 New Homes for the people of Cork

Lord Mayor of Cork, Cllr. Colm Kelleher welcomed An Taoiseach Micheál Martin to the City who officially opened new homes at Bishop’s Avenue in Farranferris, delivered by Tuath Housing, in partnership with Cork City Council

Bishop’s Avenue is a standalone development of 86 homes in total, comprising of 10no x three bed bungalows, 8no x two bed houses and 68no x three bed houses built by developers Citidwell. The homes have been funded via a combination of private finance from the Housing Finance Agency and a loan from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage. To date, 80 homes have been allocated to families from the Cork City Council housing list and with a cost per home of €294,000, the new homes represent excellent value for money. The 10 bungalows have been specifically built to meet the requirements of those on the housing waiting list with certain disabilities and for older persons.

Tuath delivered its first homes in partnership with Cork City Council back in 2011 at Blarney Street, Douglas and the nearby Meadows Estate in Knocknacullen. The Association now has over 1,500 residents in the city. The approved housing body has continued working with the local authority to deliver over 539 homes throughout the City with a further 244 homes now on site. The delivery of the new homes at Bishop’s Avenue coincided with a milestone for Tuath Housing who surpassed the 1,000 homes in management mark in the County. The Association have now over 8,300 homes nationwide in every local authority area, housing over 22,000 people. With a strong pipeline in place, Tuath are on course to deliver over 1,400 homes in 2022.

An Taoiseach Micheál Martin commented “I am delighted to be here today to officially open these 86 safe and secure homes which are much needed for those on the Cork City Council housing waiting list. Housing is without doubt one of the biggest challenges facing this country, so it is a pleasure and a privilege to meet families moving into these new homes and beginning a new phase in their lives. Our new ‘Housing for All’ strategy will provide unprecedented levels of funding as we embark on the most ambitious social housing programme in the history of the State. I believe this Tuath development is a great example of how our AHB’s, local authorities and our financial institutions can all work together with government for our collective goal of increasing social housing stock and providing homes to those who need them.”

Lord Mayor of Cork of Cork City, Cllr. Colm Kelleher said “I am absolutely delighted and welcome the launch of these 86 new homes by Tuath Housing here in the legendary Farrenferris grounds in the Northside of our City. This is going to be an exciting new community and I congratulate all involved in bringing this scheme to fruition; such large schemes don’t appear overnight. Special mention must be made to the builders Citi Dwell, a local company which has delivered excellent housing already for Cork City Council and the quality of their workmanship on display here today is a joy to behold. Also, the City Council’s Housing Directorate have been instrumental in getting this off the ground and their continuing trojan work in this area must be acknowledged as well as the Government grant aid and support which is critical. We have the people and the skills here in Cork City to deliver quality homes and communities, so let’s keep up the good work. Congratulations to everybody again.”

Tuath Vice Chairman Prof. Paddy Gray noted that “Tuath is proud of the strong working relationship it has with Cork City Council that has resulted in the delivery of over 530 homes since 2011. The 86 homes here at Bishop’s Avenue are another fine example of what can be achieved through this relationship, backed by the financial support of government and the Housing Finance Agency.”

Barry O’Leary, CEO of the Housing Finance Agency said “The HFA is delighted to support this new development in Bishop’s Avenue which will provide superb two- and three-bedroom homes for families in and around Farranferris. We will continue to provide competitively priced long term fixed rate finance to Tuath, and others in the sector, to support the strong delivery of social and affordable homes across the country.”

Tuath Celebrates 8,000 Homes With Short Film

Tuath Housing surpassed a major milestone recently with the delivery of its 8,000th home nationwide. To celebrate this major landmark,

Tuath Housing surpassed a major milestone recently with the delivery of its 8,000th home nationwide. To celebrate this major landmark, Tuath has released a fitting tribute in the form of a short film piece that reflects the Approved Housing Body’s status as a nationwide organisation, working to provide high quality, secure homes in places people want to live.

Based on a written piece by Tuath tenant and Cork writer Billy O’Callaghan, the piece involves a range of participants including Tuath staff, board members, tenants, and many key stakeholders whom the Association works closely with. Filmed on location in Cork, Galway, Westmeath, Kildare, Dublin, Louth, Wicklow and Wexford, the film is dedicated to conveying the importance of home and how we are all connected in the shared vision of creating safe and sustainable communities.

Tuath sees investment in social and affordable housing as an investment in infrastructure, an investment for future generations and an important driver of economic activity today. Letting its first homes in 2006, the Association now works with every Local Authority in Ireland and now has over 8,300 properties nationwide providing homes to more than 22,000 people. 2021 was a hugely successful year for the organisation with the delivery of over 1,700 homes, housing over 4,000 tenants.

Tuath is now one of Irelands largest Approved Housing Bodies. It employs more than 135 staff across four regional offices, overseen by an experienced management team with skills in tenancy management, project management, financial management, human resources, legal and communications. The association works closely with Local Authorities, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, The Housing Agency, the Approved Housing Bodies Regulatory Authority, the Housing Finance Agency and AIB amongst others.

Through its membership of the Irish Council for Social Housing, an organisation representing voluntary housing organisations throughout Ireland, the Association is regularly involved in research and initiatives that are dedicated to supporting and developing the voluntary housing sector. With over 2,000 homes currently under construction and the upcoming launch of its new Tenant Engagement strategy, Tuath is well placed to provide even more homes while continuing to engage with those living in them.
