Tuath Homes

When a vacancy arises in one of Tuath’s homes, we will receive suitable request nominations from the Local Authority. A Tuath home may become available for a variety of reasons including new homes being completed or a tenant transferring to alternative accommodation.

How apply for a Transfer

In certain cases, tenants may find that their existing home is no longer suitable for their needs. This may be due to factors such as job re-location, overcrowding, medical requirements or proximity to family members. In a scenario such as this, tenants may contact their housing officer and inquire whether they meet certain conditions in order to apply for a transfer. In some cases, an opportunity may arise in which a tenant can transfer to a different area in a mutual exchange with another Tuath tenant, with the permission of the Local Authority.

Mortgage to Rent Scheme

The Mortgage-to-rent scheme is an initiative that allows homeowners to switch to being a social housing tenant and pay rent instead of mortgage payments. This may be a viable option for those who have issues with paying their mortgage and/or have fallen into arrears, as they will no longer own the property and have no financial responsibilities for it apart from rental payment. Under mortgage to rent, an Approved Housing Body may be able to purchase your home and rent it back to you. As a social housing tenant, you will be pay an affordable rent based on your income. To date 691 Mortgage to Rent have been completed in Ireland. Tuath Housing has acquired 105 of these homes.

Safe Home Programme

Safe Home Ireland was established in 2000 to assist Irish-born emigrants in exploring the option of returning home to their native area. Setup by current Chairperson, Dr. Jerry Crowley, it provides a range of services to over 2000 people each year from advice and information, undertaking outreach visits and providing housing assistance to eligible applicants.

As Safe Home Ireland does not own or manage any properties, they rely on approved housing bodies such as Tuath to match their applicants up with existing, suitable homes. Tuath has a number of Housing schemes designed specifically for elderly residents and is delighted to continue its partnership and work in the Safe Home Programme.
