Tuath Housing hands over keys for 23 new homes in Co. Wexford

Minister for Housing James Browne TD today officially opened 23 homes at The Close, Kilmakilloge, Clonattin in Gorey, Co. Wexford — marking an important step forward in addressing housing demand in the region.

Delivered by Tuath Housing in close partnership with Wexford County Council, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, the Housing Finance Agency and other stakeholders, the development brings new social homes to families and individuals on the Wexford housing waiting list.

Creating homes, building communities

The 23 new social homes include 17 three-bed houses, 4 two-bed apartments, and 2 one-bed apartments, designed to serve a diverse range of household types and needs. With keys handed over in two phases (December 2024 and June 2025), these homes are already providing security and stability to residents who can now call The Close home.

Planning permission has recently been granted for Phase 2 comprising a further 91 homes at this site. The wider development, when complete, will provide in the region of 350 homes, an on-site creche, a 96-bed nursing home with adjoining Independent Living Units, a two-acre public park with dedicated play spaces, creating a ready-made, intergenerational and sustainable community.

Through their strategic collaboration, the project partners are actively tackling Wexford’s housing challenges, creating integrated, vibrant communities, and offering hope and opportunity to those most in need.

Addressing real local needs

While progress has been made in recent years to supply standard family housing, there is a continued need for one- and two-bedroom homes to support single people, older residents, and more vulnerable members of the community. Tuath Housing is committed to bridging this gap, working proactively with Wexford County Council to deliver specialist housing solutions tailored to local demand.

A proven partnership for Wexford

Speaking at today’s event, Minister James Browne TD said:

“It is wonderful to see the delivery of these 23 new social homes for the people of Wexford, supported by over €2m funding from my department’s Capital Advanced Leasing Facility (CALF). This fund has helped Approved Housing Bodies play a vital role in delivering more social homes than we’ve seen in a generation.”

Supply is crucial to meeting local and national housing need as I continue my absolute focus in tackling Ireland’s housing challenges. Over the last two years, Wexford County Council exceeded its social housing target delivering almost 800 new social homes.

I commend Tuath Housing, Wexford County Council and all our delivery partners for their continued efforts in housing the people of Wexford. I want more homes built for kids to grow up in, people to grow old in, and for everyone to build safe, secure community.”

Cathaoirleach of Wexford County Council, Joe Sullivan, added: “These homes represent significant progress in addressing local housing needs here in Gorey. Wexford County Council is proud to continue its strong partnership with Tuath Housing and State partners to bring these vital homes to life.”

Richard Pike, Chair of Tuath Housing, commented: “These homes represent much more than walls and a roof — they provide a strong foundation for families to grow, children to thrive, and older residents to live independently and with dignity. We are proud of the role we continue to play in delivering real solutions for Wexford. To date, we have delivered over 340 homes in the county, and we are committed to increasing this figure well beyond 400 in the coming years. We will continue working hand in hand with local authorities and community stakeholders to ensure everyone in Wexford has access to safe, quality homes.”
